CHECK OUT MY PROGRAMS

November 16, 2020: I am a sophomore journalism and public policy student, and a Media Scholar! I enrolled at Maryland a little unsure about what the future may hold for me, but I was really excited to discover what being involved in the media would be like, both from the perspective of the journalism school and from the media scholar program. Over my two years, I feel really immersed in the world of media as the journalism school really focuses on how to write and provide quality journalism, while the media scholar program has really opened my eyes to how people consume the media and how “media” can come in many forms, not just your typical written or broadcasted news, which has given me a really well-rounded understanding of how the media works in the world. Additionally, my public policy double major has helped me see how the media can impact real-world issues! 

It’s been an amazing two years of being able to actually consider myself a journalist as I work for The Diamondback and getting to learn from the greats in the field through Media Scholars- Alison herself has given me so many real-life examples of what journalism looks like, and I’ve gotten to listen to speakers who play a variety of roles in the media, some being producers, some being journalists, some being content creators, etc., which has opened my eyes and my classmates’ eyes to seeing how a career in journalism or the media could look different and be what we make it.
